Char Siu Pork (Chinese BBQ Pork)

Char Siu, a traditional famous dish originated from Guangdong, China. It is often served as a delicacy during traditional Chinese festivals and family gatherings, symbolizing family reunion and happiness.

Firstly, selected pork is cut into even rectangular pieces, then marinated with special Char Siu sauce for flavor. Afterwards, the marinated pork is slowly roasted in a preheated oven, continuously brushed with sauce until the surface of the Char Siu turns into a vibrant red color.

  • Cut the pork shoulder into long strips.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the honey, Char Siu Sauce and Chinese White Liquor.
  • Add the pork strips to the marinade and toss to coat. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. Use your hands to evenly distribute the marinade over the meat every couple of hours. Allow the meat to rest at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F(190°C). Cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil and put a rack over it.
  • Remove the pork strips from the marinade and place them on the rack. Reserve the marinade.
  • After roasting the pork for 20 minutes, remove it from the oven, brush on a layer of marinade, flip the meat, apply another layer of marinade, and continue roasting for an additional 20 minutes or until the pork is cooked. If the meat is cooking too quickly, shield it with aluminum foil.
  • Remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
