  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Season the shrimp with salt and pepper, then place them in the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until they turn pink and become opaque. Transfer the shrimp to a plate.
  • In the same skillet, heat the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3 minutes until it becomes translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and sauté for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Add the tomato paste, red wine, crushed tomatoes and diced tomatoes. Stir to combine. Add basil, oregano, salt and black pepper to the sauce. Simmer the sauce on low heat, allowing the flavors to meld. Stir occasionally.
  • Meanwhile, in a medium-sized pot, bring water to a boil over high heat. Cook the spaghetti following the instructions on the package until it's al dente. Drain it and set it aside.
  • Place the mussels in the same pot, along with the reserved pasta water. Bring to a simmer. Cover and cook for 4-6 minutes or until the mussels have opened. Transfer the mussels to a plate and discard any shells that remain closed.
  • Add the shrimp and mussels into the skillet with the marinara sauce. Add the spaghetti to the seafood and sauce mixture. Toss everything together to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce. Garnish with fresh basil leaves. Serve the seafood spaghetti hot, optionally with grated Parmesan cheese on top.

Notes
