  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  • Take the prime rib roast out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30-40 minutes before cooking.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the butter, garlic, rosemary, thyme, salt and black pepper. Stir until well combined.
  • Place the prime rib on a roasting rack, bone-side down, in a roasting pan. Spread the garlic herb butter mixture evenly over the top and sides of the prime rib.
  • Place the roasting pan in the preheated oven. Roast at 450°F (230°C) for about 20 minutes to sear the meat and develop a flavorful crust. After the initial searing, reduce the oven temperature to 325°F (160°C). Continue roasting the prime rib for approximately 15 minutes per pound, depending on your desired level of doneness. Use a meat thermometer to ensure accurate results. For medium-rare, aim for an internal temperature of about 130-135°F (54-57°C),which takes about an hour and a half.
  • Once the prime rib reaches your desired level of doneness, remove it from the oven and transfer it to a cutting board. Tent the roast with foil and let it rest for at least 10 minutes. Carve the prime rib into thick slices and serve with your favorite side dishes.
