  • Add the chopped onion and garlic, and cook until they become translucent. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, red wine (if using), dried basil, dried oregano, bay leaf, black pepper and salt.
  • Let the sauce simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the bay leaf from the meat sauce. Set aside.
  • Put a large pot of salted water on the stovetop on high heat. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package direction, drain.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9x13-inch baking dish, spread a ladle of meat sauce to coat the bottom. Place three lasagna noodles on top of the sauce. Add another layer of meat sauce, and sprinkle mozzarella, Parmesan, and ricotta cheese. Repeat this process two more times, ending with a final layer of cheese on top.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the lasagna is bubbly and golden brown.
  • Let the lasagna rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley. Slice, serve, and enjoy your homemade lasagna!
