Orange cupcakes strike the perfect balance between the tangy goodness of citrus and the sweetness of a cupcake. The vibrant orange zest infuses each bite with an exciting flavor that dances on your taste buds, while the cake itself offers a tender, moist crumb that’s utterly comforting. As you savor the zesty goodness of an orange cupcake, you’ll find yourself transported to a world filled with sunshine and smiles.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set this dry mixture aside.
In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the orange zest, orange juice, milk and vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
Divide the cupcake batter equally among the prepared cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean. Allow the cupcakes to cool in the muffin tin for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, orange zest, and fresh orange juice, mixing until the frosting is smooth and well combined.
Once the cupcakes are completely cooled, frost them with the orange cream cheese frosting using a piping bag or a spatula. If desired, garnish the cupcakes with additional orange zest or small orange slices.
