Bulgogi (Korean BBQ Beef)

Korean BBQ restaurants, known as "gogi-jip," are celebrated for their tableside grilling experiences. The sizzle of marinated beef hitting the hot grill, the tantalizing aroma that fills the air, and the anticipation of that first bite all contribute to the Bulgogi experience.

Total Time: 18 mins
Ingredients
  • 1 lb (453g) thinly sliced beef (ribeye or flank)
  • 1 medium onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1 tbsp (8g) toasted sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions (chopped)
  • Marinade:
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/2 pear (peeled and grated)
  • 1/4 cup (65g) soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp (25g) light brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp (1g) Korean red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp (2g) ginger (grated)
  • 1 tbsp (14g) sesame oil
Instructions
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine all the marinade ingredients. Mix well until the brown sugar is dissolved.
  2. Place the thinly sliced beef and sliced onion in a large zip-top bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the beef and onion, and allow it to marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  3. Preheat a grill to medium-high heat. Ensure the grates are clean and lightly oiled to prevent sticking. Place the beef slices on the preheated grill. Grill for about 1 to 2 minutes per side.
  4. Transfer the Bulgogi to a serving platter. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Bulgogi is typically served with steamed rice, but you can also enjoy it wrapped in lettuce leaves as a delicious Korean BBQ wrap.
Recipe Notes

You can customize your Bulgogi by adding vegetables like mushrooms, bell peppers, or zucchini during the cooking process.
