Baked Teriyaki Salmon

This dish embodies the harmonious blend of sweet and savory, a signature characteristic of Japanese cuisine. The teriyaki glaze, with its perfect balance of soy sauce, mirin, sake, and a touch of sweetness, transforms simple salmon into a flavorful masterpiece. As it bakes to perfection, the teriyaki sauce caramelizes, creating a succulent, glossy finish that elevates the salmon to new heights.
Servings: 4 yield(s)
Ingredients
  • 4 salmon fillets
  • 1 green onion (thinly sliced)
  • Sesame seeds
  • Teriyaki Sauce:
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup (118ml) mirin (sweet rice wine)
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) sake (or white wine)
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) honey
  • 1 tsp (2g) grated fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine Teriyaki sauce ingredients. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Simmer for 5-7 minutes or until the sauce thickens slightly. Remove it from the heat and allow it to cool for a bit.
  3. Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag. Pour half of the teriyaki sauce over the salmon, ensuring each fillet is well-coated. Marinate for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator. Reserve the remaining sauce for later.
  4. Remove the marinated salmon from the refrigerator and place the fillets on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. In the last 5 minutes of baking, brush the reserved teriyaki sauce over the salmon fillets to create a flavorful glaze. This adds a delicious caramelized finish. Once baked, garnish with thinly sliced green onions and sprinkle sesame seeds over the top for an extra touch of flavor and presentation.
  5. Serve the Baked Teriyaki Salmon over steamed rice or your favorite vegetables. Drizzle any remaining teriyaki sauce over the top, and enjoy this flavorful and easy-to-make salmon dish!
