In a pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 3-4 minutes. Add the broccoli to the pot and pour in the chicken broth. Bring the soup to a boil, then reduce the heat. Cover the pot and let it simmer for about 10-12 minutes, or until the broccoli is tender.
